Charente Vendee Attractions  This area of France has a rich variety of attractions for the holidaymaker.  Of course the miles of sandy beaches draw the crowds year after year, but there are some delightful towns and villages as well, plus vineyards aplenty with the added benefit of the home of Cognac and the local speciality Pineau. Also you will find splendid theme parks such as le Puy du Fou or Futuroscope, as well as idyllic islands, fascinating geographical features....

Aqualand water theme parkAqualand  Somewhat to the south of the area, but the kids will love it!

Location: At Gujan-Mestras on the south side of the Arcachon basin (west of Bordeaux).

General Info: 2007 prices €23.50 for an adult, €17 for infants.  Open daily 6th June 2007 - 2nd September from 10AM till 6PM (7PM in high season).  Check their website for more information.

Description: This is an excellent Aqualand theme park with a wide variety of water based rides including a surf beach, various different water flumes, rides on rubber rings, long rapids, jacuzzis and a gentle water park for the younger visitor.

Our recommendations:
It’s worth arriving early as these water parks tend to get busy later in the day.  That way you'll get the best value from the day.  Don't forget to take plenty of strong sun tan lotion and reapply it regularly!
For the children: Well if they are above the age of 10 and confident with water you'll probably lose them for the day here - so take a picnic and a good book to read!
