View near Fort de BuouxFort de Buoux

Location: On a very minor road (D113) which can be reached from D943 which crosses the Luberon mountains between Apt and Lourmarin. This is one of those ‘off the beaten track’ places that you would never stumble across, and yet once you have found it you have found a gem. The D113 is very windy and narrow in places.
General Information: The Fort is signposted and there is a car park from which a short walk takes you to a Guardians house where a small fee is payable and an English translation of the site is available.
Description: The Fort itself is of 12th Century origins on the site of a Roman oppidum. It has since been added to over the centuries. It is quite clear that it was built for strategic purposes and the views over the Aigue Brun valley are quite spectacular. It is well worth exploring, particularly for children who love to scramble.
Our recommendations: It is well worth exploring the fort, particularly for children who love to scramble. However sturdy footwear is needed (trainers) and do take care with children as there are some very precipitous drops.
